Global Headspin – Bronze Sculpture

When turned slowly the faces of this globe-like ‘ball of wonder’ are looking outward and capture people in expressions of awe but when spun fast they portray an overwhelmed dizziness that we all may feel at times. The axis rod is crowned with three birds that appear to circle the heavens when the globe is rotated in a clockwise fashion. It is topped with a double-faced radiant sun. The sky elements suggest that the figures are looking out into the vastness of space.

Where and How it’s made
The original is made of Chavant wax-based clay. A capture mold is made which destroys the original wax clay parts,  but allows for a wax casting, a secondary mold, and lost wax bronze casting. The casting was done at Burton Bronze Foundry, on Salt Spring Island BC.

This sculpture is foam and cloth wrapped and securely boxed, and crated.

Due to the weight of the piece, the sculpture is wrapped in foam and cloth, and then securely boxed in a wooden crate. To open the crate, either a square-tipped Roberson screwdriver and a reversible drill are required to open the outside crate. Open on a secure surface or floor, taking care not to use a deep cutting blade. This piece, even when uncrated, is quite heavy. It may require more than one person to handle.
