This art print celebrates the union of lovers in a moment of intimacy, balance, and play. While entwined around a loveseat in an infinity-shaped tumble, these lovers gaze at one another in a candlelit shadow. There is a consciously divine reference to the fingers of Adam and God touching (Michelangelo), and a Fra Angelico-like glowing wall which is lit as if in the niches of the San Marco monastery.
This image was designed and painted at the time of my wedding engagement. It celebrates the union of lovers in a moment of intimacy, balance, and play. While entwined around a loveseat in an infinity-shaped tumble, these lovers gaze at one another in a candlelit shadow. There is a consciously divine reference to the fingers of Adam and God touching (Michelangelo), and a Fra Angelico-like glowing wall that is lit as if in the niches of the San Marco monastery. Hanging on the wall above the couple is a painted ‘pseudo’ Piet Mondrian painting, where simple artistic elements form a balance. The slightly off-centered yellow square, without any black lines surrounding it, suggests the flicker of a candle and represents emitting light. And like a shadow, the black line’s function is to hold down the pure red and blue. The modern constructivist style of art in the top half of the painting, mirrors the stylized realism of the lovers below, marrying two different styles of art.
