This print was produced by hand, by burnishing textured aquatints on a copper plate. In this process Michael scratched a line drawing on a wax-coated plate, and the lines were acid etched as a guide. Next the plate was cleaned and etched with several layers of spray aquatint until it printed black. The artist then burnished the tones and whites into the plate. With approximately 60 hours of burnishing to get this plate press ready, the plate was inked up and placed on a press. With wetted paper placed on top, the print was pulled by running it through a roller press at high pressure, transferring the ink to the paper.
